06/11/2006 Entry: "A couple days on RAGBRAI"

I'm sure everyone who is reading this (meaning no one probably) is anxious to hear about the start of RAGBRAI XXXIV. It started. Read on for details.

The bus arrived with Seager, Kendra, Mike, Victoria, and me in Sergeant Bluff on Saturday. Shortly after that we made our way to town in order to perform at the opening ceremonies for RAGBRAI. The show went pretty well, considering that there was not a lot of planning.

Sunday was the first day of riding. I am still trying to decide if it was the best day I have ever had on RAGBRAI, but if not, it was close to the top. The weather was perfect, the ride was short, and the hills weren't quite as bad as advertised. We did a couple shows that we were very happy with on the street in Ida Grove, and also managed to recruit a couple new members.

Today was not quite as good. There was a strong south wind, and the middle part of the day was about 30 miles straight south. It was also pretty hot, and there were a lot of hills. Needless to say, it was a struggle to make it the whole way, but as far as I know everyone on our team managed it. I just overhead one of the Register's sag wagon drivers say that they took 120 people on the regular wagon and then they started using school buses because they couldn't move people fast enough.

I don't have a lot of time, so I will leave it at that. Tomorrow is supposed to be a little shorter and a lot of downhill.
